That Girl

He pretended not to look and I pretended not to see. Yet we both knew he was looking at her as she sauntered straight out the pages of a magazine and down the street. I knew what he was thinking but I resisted the urge to say: as if, she’s way out of your league!
Later, when we quarrelled about whose turn it was to wash the dishes I told him: I saw you looking at that girl, but he just looked at me like I was mad.
